SUCCESS STORIES
Since its inception in 2007, the Belize Education Project has provided
scholarships for many high school and college students. We would like
to share the stories of a few of these extraordinary young people.

Janin Azucena Alcoser
This is Janin's story in her own words: "Janin Azucena Alcoser - that’s my full name. The first is a combination of my mom and dad's initial letters and the second is my mom’s second name as well. I am 17 years old and I am currently in the second and final year of pursuing my Associates degree in Biology and Chemistry. Everyone says that the future is obscure and you should never make plans for it because anything can happen; however, I believe God led me to this scholarship for a purpose so in the future I will be a surgeon and offer as much help as I can to those around me as I can because when I needed help, I received it. Sadly that is not the case for many."

Nery Andres Villeda Izaguirre
Nery graduated in 2019 with a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school years and with highest honors as valedictorian. He received awards for Mathematical Excellence in Third and Fourth form, and maintained a 100 average in Math for four years. Nery has been accepted to Medical School at the University of Guatemala and will begin classes in January 2020. You can read Nery’s extraordinary journey of courage and diligence here .

Jessica Janet Pop
Jessica's story is a great example of perseverance. Since she was a small child she knew she wanted to become a teacher. Unfortunately she lost her mom when she was only 6 years old, and her life changed drastically after that. She was raised mostly by her brother and did very well in primary school despite all the challenges in her life. There was no money to send her to high school so she helped her sister-in-law serve lunches at her primary school. Several years later, at the age of 18, her intelligence and eagerness were noticed and she was offered a scholarship to attend Eden High School. She was the oldest person in her classroom by 5 years. She was an exemplary student throughout her high school career and earned another BEP scholarship to enroll in college so she could get a teaching degree. Read her full story in her own words here .

Tracy Landero
Tracy was sponsored by Nicole Speers for high school in 2011. She is an extraordinary example of a dream coming true. Read Tracy's story here .
